PNG, JPG and WebP conversion with transparency control

Convert a static raster image into the format your next app needs. PNG preserves transparent areas and uses lossless encoding; JPEG is widely supported for opaque photos; WebP offers a modern option with transparency. Select the target format, preview the re-encoded result, and download it without an account. JPEG uses your chosen matte color wherever the original is transparent. For PNG to JPG conversion, choose a matte color before processing a transparent graphic; use PNG or WebP if the destination needs the original see-through areas.

Ways to use the image converter

Convert a transparent PNG into a JPG with a white background.

Save a JPG as PNG for an application that requires that format.

Create a WebP copy of a generated or existing image.

How to convert PNG to JPG or WebP with the right background

Changing a filename extension does not convert an image. This tool decodes a supported source and encodes a new PNG, JPEG, or WebP file.

Select a supported PNG, JPEG or WebP source image

Choose a PNG, JPEG, or WebP up to 20 MiB. Animated images and formats such as HEIC, GIF, and SVG are not accepted by this workflow. The file is processed in your browser, and the converted copy keeps the source dimensions rather than acting as a separate resize step.

Decide what happens to transparency

PNG and WebP can retain transparent pixels. JPEG cannot, so choose the background color that will replace them before conversion. That is a permanent part of the JPEG pixels. Converting that JPEG back to PNG later does not recover the original transparent areas.

Check more than the extension

Inspect the output preview, dimensions, and file size before downloading. A PNG made from an already compressed JPEG does not restore lost detail, and another lossy encode may remove more. Keep the original if you may need to produce other formats or revise the background choice later.

Image Converter: questions & answers

Everything you need before your next download.

Can JPG images have a transparent background?

No. JPEG does not store an alpha channel. This converter fills transparent pixels with your selected background color. Choose PNG or WebP to retain transparency.

Which input formats are supported?

This tool accepts static PNG, JPEG, and WebP files up to 20 MiB and 33,554,432 decoded pixels. Animated files, SVG, GIF, HEIC, RAW, and PDF are not supported. Output is limited to 8192 pixels per side.

Will converting JPG to PNG restore image quality or keep metadata?

No. PNG cannot restore detail already lost to JPEG compression. Files are re-encoded from the displayed pixels; do not rely on EXIF, GPS, color profiles, or other source metadata being retained.
