Browser-reported screen size

— × —CSS pixels

This is the screen size reported by your browser, not a measurement of your panel’s native hardware resolution.

Your screen and browser viewport

Browser viewport
— × —CSS pixels

The width and height available to the page in CSS pixels, including any scrollbars.

Device pixel ratio (DPR)
—

The browser’s ratio between device pixels and CSS pixels. Page zoom can change this value.

Estimated screen pixels
— × —pixels

Browser-reported screen size × DPR, rounded to whole pixels. Display scaling, zoom and browser reporting can affect this estimate.

These values describe what the browser exposes. They do not identify your monitor model or verify its native panel resolution, refresh rate or physical size.

Understand screen size, browser viewport and pixel estimates

Check the dimensions exposed by your browser without uploading a file. The screen and viewport fields use CSS pixels; device pixel ratio explains the relationship to device pixels, while estimated dimensions multiply the reported screen size by DPR. These estimates do not reliably identify the native panel, physical inches or monitor model. Values update as the window changes. Choose reported CSS dimensions or estimates when opening a matching image generator; oversized results are reduced to supported limits.

Ways to use the screen resolution

Compare the browser viewport with the reported screen area.

Copy display information when discussing a layout issue.

Open a white background or gradient wallpaper at chosen dimensions.

How to read screen and viewport measurements

Browser dimensions describe the current environment. They are useful for layout and image-size decisions, with different meanings for each field.

Compare screen dimensions with the viewport

The screen fields report the display area in CSS pixels. The viewport describes the current browser content area, so browser bars and window size can make it smaller. Resize the window and compare the values rather than expecting them to match.

Interpret DPR and estimates separately

Device pixel ratio can reflect display scaling and page zoom. Multiplying screen CSS dimensions by DPR creates a labeled estimate, not proof of native panel resolution. Neither those values nor a browser report reveals physical screen inches reliably.

Choose dimensions for your next background

Copy the report for troubleshooting or choose CSS dimensions or estimates before opening the white-image or wallpaper tool. Read any proportional size reduction notice and confirm the image dimensions in the generator before downloading.

Screen Resolution: questions & answers

Everything you need before your next download.

Are these my monitor native physical pixels?

Not necessarily. Screen dimensions are browser-reported CSS pixels. The estimate multiplies them by DPR, which can change with page zoom and operating-system scaling.

Why does the background link use smaller dimensions?

The image engine supports at most 8192 pixels per side and 33,554,432 total pixels. When a requested size exceeds those limits, the linked size is reduced proportionally and the page explains it.
